ST. AGATHA CATHOLIC CHURCH
RESPECT LIFE TEAM Randy Stewart
The St Agatha Respect Life Committee is one of our parish’s newest ministries, having held its first meeting in February 2010. The committee is the fruit of the efforts of several parishioners who felt the need to offer an increased pro-life presence to our parish. The committee’s goals of helping to spread the Gospel of Life and to offer understanding and clarity to the Church’s teachings on the life issues are reflected in its mission statement; The St. Agatha Respect Life Team is committed to promoting the Gospel of Life in our parish and our community through the spiritual disciplines of prayer, study, outreach and apostolic witness.
All parishioners are welcome to join the Respect Life Committee’s monthly activities which take place the second Sunday of each month; our monthly meeting is at Noon in the Parish Hall Meeting Room, the Rosary for Life is at 1:30pm in the church and we have an information table at “Coffee and Donuts” after the 8:30 and 10:30 Masses. Other committee supported activities include community outreach programs and events such as Steps for Life and 40 Days for Life.
Did you know: St Agatha’s Respect Life Committee began with prayer. In 2008, several parishioners were interested in starting a parish pro-life group. Unsure if they had the time, skill and resources needed, they decided to begin by answering Pope John Paul II’s request, "A great prayer for life is urgently needed..." With the blessing of Father Slider Steuernol, the St Agatha monthly Rosary for Life was first held in June 2008. Attendance included parishioners from St Agatha as well as several neighboring parishes. One and a half years later the Respect Life Committee held its first meeting. The monthly Rosary for Life continues as one of the committee’s regular activities.
